Proper Maintenance Tips To Extend The Life Of Your Vacuum Cleaner
We would like to share a few quick tips on how to increase the longevity of your vacuum cleaner. Without proper maintenance, even the best vacuum cleaners can’t do the job they were designed to do. There are several maintenance practices that can help you maximize the effectiveness of your vacuum and prolong its lifespan. Lets take a look at a few of these basic tips for the very best suction power and great cleaning results.
Tip #1- Unplug your vacuum cleaner before performing any maintenance on it.A vacuum cleaner that turns on unexpectedly while you are working on it can injure you. Check to make sure your vacuum has a ground prong. If this is missing, DO NOT USE the vacuum. Contact the manufacturer for repair.
Tip #2- Change bags regularly. It’s important to monitor how full the bag is, and make sure to dispose of it once it starts to feel 1/2 full. If you continue to use the device once the bag is too full, you risk significant damage to the machine, as well as making a big mess. There are certain signs you can look out for that indicate a bag is full, or getting close to it. The most obvious sign is when you vacuum an area and find it covered in debris that were not there before. This typically happens because the bag is full, and debris have made their way back onto the carpet. Another sign is when you notice the vacuum cleaner suction isn’t as strong as it should be.
Tip #3- Clean and inspect brushes for signs of wear.Brush rolls are known to pull out the toughest dirt and debris from the deepest fibers of your carpets. If you see that the brush roll is holding onto hairs, animal fur, or strings then it’s time to clean it. You can usescissors or just your fingers to clean the brushes. They don’t need to be spotless, but you should remove any hair or string that is wrapped around the brush. Pay special attention to the ends near the bearings and to the area around where the belt engages.
Tip #4- Check the air passages for clogs. After using your vacuum cleaner for some time, its interior tends to accumulate dirt and debris. A good deal of vacuum cleaner maintenance comes down to simply cleaning the unit itself. This is especially important when it comes to the vent covers. Over time, these vent covers may start to become clogged with larger debris. Once this happens you will notice that your vacuum cleaner is becoming less and less efficient at cleaning your floors. If you don’t clean these vents periodically, you run the risk of your vacuum cleaner over-heating and possibly burning out all together. To clean these you can simply use a thin broomstick to poke out any dirt and clogs inside these passages.
The main thing to remember when it comes to properly maintaining your vacuum cleaner is that it is essential that you keep it clean. A few minutes of maintenance work can add years to its lifespan, it will also keep it running smoother and more efficient. Replacing a vacuum cleaner can be expensive, but taking the time to keep it working well can be relatively quick when you follow the tips above.
