Prepare Your Home For Spring!
/in Carpet Cleaning/by adminSpring is right around the corner and for most homeowners it’s an exciting time to get your home ready. In the winter time, homeowners tend to stay inside more often but we also tend to be busier with holidays. For this reason, regular home maintenance can become time consuming. We recommend to make a list of basic home cleaning maintenance tasks and how often they should be performed and tackle things one at a time. We’ve come up with a list of basic Spring cleaning tasks which can also be performed year round and make it a little easier for you once spring cleaning season arrives!
Dishwasher
First, remove any bits of food on the bottom. Then, run a cycle with a specialty cleanser. We recommend this once per month to prevent build up.
Cabinets
Over time, build-up of grease can collect on your kitchen cabinets. We recommend cleaning cabinets once every few months.
Stainless Steel Appliances
Use a stainless steel cleaner for your stainless steel appliances. Make sure you don’t put on too much or you might leave the surface grimy. Recommended every one to two weeks.
Windows
Instead of just wiping down the inside, make sure you take to the outdoors during spring cleaning season to remove spots and smudges you don’t usually have time to tackle.
Hardwood Floors
Even though you might think you should mop your wooden floors every week, this chore could ruin them. Instead, you should only wet clean them once every one to two months and spot-clean as needed. Then make sure you use saucers under plants to avoid water damage and use furniture protectors to avoid scratches.
Bedding
Bedding such as mattress toppers and pillows should be thrown into your washing machine (just reach the manufacturer’s label first!) two to three times per year. Sheets and comforters should be washed every one to two weeks.
Washing Machine
Don’t wash your clothes in a smelly machine. Instead, disinfect it with distilled white vinegar and baking soda to keep it fresh and high-functioning. Run the machine with hot water, then add the cleaning agents, and let it sit for 30 to 60 minutes. Afterwards, restart your machine, let the water drain, and wipe it dry.
Oven
If you ever start to smell something burning when you turn on your oven, it might be time to give it a deep clean. First, chip off loose pieces from your range, then spritz burnt-on food with ammonia. Sprinkle baking soda and a few drops of white vinegar on the bottom, let it bubble up, then whisk away the grime with a sponge.
Tiled Surfaces
Mix baking soda and water for a homemade cleaner: Pour 1/2 cup baking soda into 2 gallons water and mix very well. Then apply the liquid with a string mop or sponge mop. For grout, use the same baking soda and water mixture, but for tough stains, call in the pros.
Area Rugs
Area rugs typically don’t need cleaning as often as carpeting. Have rugs professionally cleaned every couple of years, depending on traffic. Over cleaning can contribute to wear and tear. But, you should treat stains at home as needed. Stains caused by pets, coffee and red wine are the hardest to remove, and the key is to act quickly. If you can’t remove it yourself with natural products, call in a professional!
Mattress and Upholstery
Have your mattress and upholstery professionally cleaned to remove build up of allergens, dust mites and dead skin cells. We recommend once per year.
Carpet
To remove build up of allergens and to really get your home looking nice this spring, have your carpet professionally cleaned. We recommend a professional deep steam cleaning once or twice per year.
Spring maintenance is a good idea for everyone, and even more important to maintain the cleanliness of your home throughout the year. What are you waiting for? Get started, the warm weather is on its way and we want your to-do list free of time consuming tasks so that you can enjoy it!
