Keep your carpets clean over the holidays!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas and the New year are fast approaching. While we’re preparing our homes for the holidays by cleaning and decorating, it is especially important to maintain clean carpets this time of year as well. While we recommend having clean carpets to make your home shine when your guests arrive, we also recommend maintaining clean carpets during and after the holidays. Christmas can be hard on carpet in a home filled with guests, which is why we’d like to offer a few tips for removing common stains that occur on carpets around the holidays.

Chocolate

Use a butter knife to scrape the chocolate off the carpet. Once the chocolate has been removed you can apply a mixture of ¼ teaspoon clear detergent and one cup of room temperature water, then with a white cloth work your way from the outer edge of the stain to the middle, blotting not rubbing.

Candy Cane

Carefully remove the hard candy from carpet, you may need to use a bit of cold water to moisten the candy, this is to prevent damage to the carpet fibers. Then, blot the stain with cold water to remove any residual candy pieces. Now, take approximately ½ a teaspoon of liquid dish soap and work it into the carpet fibers with your fingers. Wet a white cloth and blot the stain. You will need an additional clean cloth dipped in distilled white vinegar, and then begin to dampen the remaining stain. Let the distilled white vinegar sit for a few minutes, then press down on the stain with a clean cloth. If the stain still persists, repeat the process of dampening the spot with vinegar, and then blotting. Once you have fully removed the candy spill, flush the newly cleaned area with water.

Red Wine

Pour salt on spilled red wine. The salt will immediately start to absorb the wine, you will see it turn pink. Leave overnight, then vacuum. Afterwards, scrub all affected areas gently with a soapy cloth.

Beer

If beer is your beverage of choice over the holiday period, we’ve got a cleaning tip for getting those stains out of the carpet too. Get a clean white paper towel or cloth, begin blotting up as much of the spilled beer as possible. Then, use two cups of plain warm water mixed with a tablespoon of dish soap and a tablespoon of white vinegar to blot the stain away.

Eggnog

First, extract the spilt eggnog using a clean sponge or a white cloth. Dilute the eggnog stain that is left behind. Create a cleaning mixture using one part white vinegar and four parts warm water. Pour a small amount of the vinegar-based cleaning solution onto the affected area of the carpet. Use a clean white cloth to blot the eggnog stain repeatedly until all of it is gone. Make sure to dry thoroughly.

We hope these tips will help you maintain clean carpets this holiday season. Most importantly, we hope your Christmas is filled with the love and warmth of family, the magic of the season and the joy of festive cheer! We wish you all a very Merry Christmas!
